The Beginning of a Lego Journey

The Start of Something New

To embark on a Lego journey is to take the first step into a world of endless possibilities on taken, this is the beginning of a Lego journey. Decades ago, the journey began with simple square or oblong bricks, but as time passed, sets and models grew more complex, and so did the bricks and elements available. Today, a vast array of detailed bricks for architecture, curved bricks, wheels, gears, pneumatic pistons, pulleys, and hinged elements await enthusiasts. However, the question remains – where to begin?

Regardless of whether this hobby is shared with children, purchased for them, or embraced for oneself, everyone must take that inaugural step. This marks the commencement of constructing simpler models and acquaints builders with following instructions to create various structures. Basic sets serve as a means to explore the diverse paths available on the Lego journey. Starting with simple models suggested in the instruction booklet enclosed within the box is an excellent way to initiate this exploration.

For more experienced builders or adults venturing into this hobby, diving into one of the more intricate sets, perhaps a themed one, may be a preferable starting point. Personally, I’m commencing with a “Champions of Speed” set featuring the Aston Martin FI race car and start car, (I have the recently built the retired set featuring the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro and the Aston Martin Vantage GT3. While they a collector’s set, such sets are ideal launchpads for older kids and adults treading the first steps of their Lego journey.

Every journey begins with a single step.

Embracing Authenticity

Numerous manufacturers produce building bricks, some compatible with Lego while others may be hit or miss in terms of compatibility. In my opinion, maintaining a high quality standard entails investing in authentic Lego bricks. Adhering to this standard may be a pricier approach, but it’s undoubtedly worthwhile, aligning with Lego’s founding mantra, “Only the best is good enough.”

Though purchasing genuine Lego bricks may be more expensive, they can be procured from various sources including Lego stores, major supermarkets, Amazon, eBay, and private sellers like yard sales and Craigs List. However, caution is advised when acquiring Lego in bulk or from private sellers, as not all the pieces may be present, and non-Lego elements or even Duplo bricks may be mixed in.

Online resources often sell bricks in bulk, providing a cost-effective option to supplement unseen areas of builds with compatible bricks, preserving genuine Lego pieces for visible surfaces while managing costs. Organizing the Journey

Setting aside a dedicated space for building and storage is essential. Containers for part organization prove invaluable, allowing pieces to be sorted by size, color, and type. Moreover, owning a variety of baseplates can provide a stable Lego building surface, especially when constructing architectural models.

Dreaming Big

In the world of Lego, the journey starts small but has the potential to expand into a captivating, deeply involving hobby. Those looking to delve deeper into the Lego community can explore additional sites featuring Lego. An aspiration to build a Lego city may begin with creating a “village” and gradually evolving it into a bustling metropolis, complete with a functioning railway. While this endeavor demands time, financial investment, and effort, the fulfillment and potential to pass down the legacy to future generations make it an immensely rewarding pursuit.
